An alt tag, also known as alternative tag, is used to describe an image in a short sentence. A picture is worth a thousand words, but not for Google spiders. Since pictures don’t have any meaning for search engines, an alt text and content text are equally important.
Technical rules for alt tags?
Should describe the image in a short sentence
Alt attributes should always include the keyword
An ideal html alt tag text should be around 7 to 8 words, but not more than 16 words
Avoid keyword stuffing (that’s a nice way of saying: do not, ever, ever, stuff keywords in your alt tag)
Don’t forget to include your content summary while you are describing the image
